Doug Fishbone

Doug Fishbone’s first major geopolitical project took the unusual form of a mound of bananas, up to 40,000 of them, which, since 1999, he has installed in a number of politically resonant locations: Plaza of the Central Bank of Ecuador in Cuenca; Piotrkow Trybunalski, Poland, the site of Europe’s first Nazi Jewish ghetto; d.u.m.bo., Brooklyn; London’s Trafalgar Square.

Originally created for the Zoo Portfolio 2005, published by Archeus, Fishbone's tube of sand mixes grains from the various disputed and conflict territories of Israel and presents them in a box, in the manner of many flawless objects. Fishbone's geopolitical satire has been the starting point for his video and performance work which is now widely exhibited.
